Milan Al-Ashabb

was born in 1992 in Jerusalem. Both his parents are doctors, after their separation he returned to the Czech Republic with his mother and older sister. He studied at the conservatory in Teplice, then at the HAMU in Prague under Ivan Straus. He is currently attending a postgraduate course at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. He has won several competitions both at home and abroad, the most important of which was the first prize in last year’s Fritz Kreisler International Competition; in the same year he also won the New York Concert Artists and Associates competition, in which the main prize was a recital at the Berlin Philharmonic.

Violinist Milan Al-Ashhab and his rare instrument from the workshop of Nicola Amati, made in Cremona, Italy in 1662, are more than a match made in heaven. Amati’s violin has a characteristically rich, honeyed sound and Milan’s violin technique is impeccable.

Trhová Kamenice

Although the first written record of the area dates back to 1242 (a grant deed), it can be assumed that the settlement was founded earlier. The probable founder was the monastery in Vilémov. The most frequent written records from the 14th century refer to a church dedicated to St. Philip and St. James. In the 15th century, the economic boom of the village began, as evidenced, among other things, by a charter of Vladislav II from 1499, which mentions Trhová Kamenice as a town with a coat of arms – a silver lion in a red field. The oldest guild regulations for stonemasons also date from this time and there is written evidence of the existence of a mill.

In the 16th century, the nobility began to farm on their own and breweries, hammers, mills and sawmills, including a system of dams, canals and ponds, were established in the market town. A further economic upsurge did not begin until the end of the 17th century. At that time 214 adults and 134 children lived in Trhová Kamenice. According to the Josephine cadastre, Trhová Kamenice had 79 descriptive numbers. In 1762, Maria Theresa confirmed the “privileged markets” for the town. In 1815 a new two-class school was built next to the parish church at the expense of the owner of the estate, Karl of Auersperg. In 1853 Trhová Kamenice was promoted to a town.
